Apparently, playlists are a big deal now, or so I’m told. And since I actually have one for Love & Devotion, I’m going to share it with y’all. It’s a lot of old school country, which is interesting since that’s not what I spend my time listening to.
Here’s the first song, When God Fearing Women Get the Blues, by Martina McBride.
Lonnie, the main character’s lover at the beginning of Love & Devotion, is modeled after this song. She’s a middle aged, former Texas beauty queen who has dedicated her life to doing the ‘right’ thing. She has an affair with KC, a woman half her age, as a form of rebellion. Turns out, Lonnie isn’t all that nice and doesn’t really care about the ‘right’ thing so long as she’s able to keep up appearances.
In other words, she’s a hot mess. But I like her anyway.
