Lesbians and Cake. Because.

Cake–A Bitterroot Novella (Available February 2016 from Ylva Publishing)

A sexy romance about two women, one inconvenient wedding, and a shared love of cake.

Even though 2015 was bust for me in terms of publishing my own work, I still have the coolest job ever. I write. About lesbians. Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than that.

In fact, the last book I released was actually called The Job. But it’s about a completely different kind of job. A bank job, to be specific. Picture a lesbian FBI agent pretending to be a gangster working for an organization that funds terrorist groups, both overseas and domestic. Now, picture that same lesbian FBI agent/gangster caught up in a terrorist bombing disguised as a bank robbery. Now, picture that same lesbian in the middle of a bank robbery/terrorist bombing, and her ex-lover is the manager of the bank.

Yeah. What could possibly go wrong?

Cake400x600My upcoming release, Cake, is nothing like The Job.

Sure, there are still lesbians. Because. Lesbians! But there aren’t any FBI agents, bank managers, or terrorists.

But it does have a couple of sexy-time scenes, enough to qualify as an erotic romance, and that’s always fun. Plus there’s cake. Which only makes sense, really. Who would call a story Cake without having any actual cake featured in the story? Maybe that would work as some sort of ironic, political statement. But that’s not what this is. The cake in Cake is literal, not figurative.

Oh, and in addition to lesbian sexy times, Cake is roughly the size of a nice cake. What I mean by that is, rather than a novel, Cake is a novella. A novella, for those of you who just nudged you’re partners and asked, “What’s a novella?” is a story that’s longer than a short story, but shorter than a novel. It’s also, imho, the perfect length for erotica.

Cake is a first for me in that it will be my very first stand alone novella story. A couple years ago, I released Uncommon Romance, which is a collection of three novellas, but that’s still not the same.

Because of the length, we’re likely to only see Cake as an e-book. Perhaps, at some point in the far distant future, after I’ve written a couple more novellas to keep it company, I’ll release a paperback collection.

I hope you enjoy reading Cake as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it. It’s a fun, sassy, sexy little romp.  Sorry, you’ll have to wait for February to read the whole thing, but here’s the long blurb to give you just a little taste.

Kelly and Elana’s relationship is a recipe for disaster. First, they meet at a wedding, and that never works. Second, Kelly’s older brother is marrying Elana’s ex-lover. And third, Elana is still painfully, undeniably in love with said ex.

When it comes to other people’s lives, Elana Verdad is an expert. As a licensed psychologist and life coach, she helps people overcome obstacles. Her own life, on the other hand, is a disaster. Her lover left her for a man, so she drove over his mailbox accidentally on purpose. Now, not only did the judge take away her driver’s license, he also assigned her to community service at the local women’s prison. In what may be her worst idea ever, Elana decides to crash their wedding.

Kelly Miller may not understand her brother’s rush to marry his girlfriend, but when he asks her to bake his wedding cake, it’s not as if she can refuse. She’s in the catering business after all. At the wedding, she meets a beautiful, complicated, and seriously damaged woman. Although Kelly knows it’s crazy, she’s drawn to her nonetheless.

Despite the reasons they shouldn’t be together, there’s still an undeniable something between them. All they need is a chance to enjoy their slice of the cake.

  1. Aww, e-book? So many authors are killing me with e-books I totally lack the ability to get. Guess I will have to keep fingers crossed you will create a couple more novellas quick so it will come out soon in paperback because this sounds incredibly tempting. Does begging help?

    1. Begging certainly makes me feel like my work is appreciated. 🙂 You can’t read on the computer even? I’m sad now. I do have a few more novellas planned in the series, so at some point, I anticipate a paperback collection happening. And, for what it’s worth, I have a paperback scheduled for fall 2016.
